The 3 Gallon Consort Black Currant is a hardy, productive fruit bush that produces large clusters of deep purple-black berries packed with bold flavor. The berries have a rich sweet-tart taste often described as a blend of blueberry, grape, and blackberry.
This vigorous shrub typically grows 4–6 feet tall and wide, forming a dense, attractive plant that works well in home gardens, food forests, and edible landscapes.
In early to mid-summer the bush becomes covered with long hanging clusters of fruit. Once established, a mature plant can produce 6–10 pounds of berries per season.
Consort is also well known for its excellent disease resistance and strong cold hardiness, making it one of the most reliable black currant varieties for northern climates.
The berries are excellent for:
• Fresh eating
• Smoothies
• Jams and jellies
• Syrups
• Baking
Black currants are also considered a superfruit, naturally high in vitamin C and antioxidants.
